Long-term Follow-up of Sexual Quality of Life after Laparoscopic Surgery in Patients with Deep Infiltrating Endometriosis

Study ObjectiveWe performed a long-term follow-up to quantify the impairment of sexual quality life (SQL) and health-related QL (HRQL) in sexually active women after laparoscopic excision deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE).DesignProspective case-control study.SettingHospital Clinic Barcelona.PatientsA total 193 patients (after dropout exclusions) were divided into 2 groups: one hundred twenty-nine premenopausal with DIE (DIE group) 64 healthy who underwent tubal ligation (C group).InterventionsAll surgery: surgery group C group. All followed for at least 36 months, they completed Medical Outcomes 36-item short form questionnaire assess their HRQL 3 self-administered questionnaires that evaluate different aspects SQL: generic Sexual Quality Life–Female questionnaire, Female Distress Scale “sexually related distress,” Brief Profile Function screen hypoactive desire disorder. The as well controls 4 before surgery, also 6 months surgery.Measurements Main ResultsA comparison showed statistically significant SQL among DIE. A improvement was observed scores being similar those An evaluation better than presurgical group, slight reduction compared 6-month evaluation.ConclusionSQL improved undergoing complete resection comparable showing follow-up.
